Learn when to invite everyone in and when to go deep with precision.
Language has power. It can open doors, build trust, and make people feel seen. It can also create focus, precision, and clarity in specialized settings. The key? Knowing when you’re choosing one or the other and doing it with intention.
In this 5-week live course, Clair Rock will guide you through the full spectrum of language: from inclusive and accessible communication that reaches broad audiences, to the more exclusive, technical language needed in certain professional contexts.
Through engaging lectures, thoughtful discussions, and hands-on practice, you’ll gain the tools to make conscious choices about your words so your communication is clear, empathetic, and effective in any situation.
Every Tuesday from January 13th thru February 10th | 3:00 - 5:00 PM Eastern
No background in linguistics required, just curiosity and a willingness to reflect on your own communication habits.
"I’ve spent the last several years researching and trying to understand how people interact with language and how to curate language in a way that it can best serve the broadest scope of the audience." - Clair Rock

MEET YOUR GUIDE
CLAIR ROCK
Using language as a tool for clarity, connection, and conscious choice.
Clair Rock (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based info nerd who loves language and user-friendly design. Their background spans documentary filmmaking, teaching, and digital design, but these days they focus on solving complex problems as an information architect and UX designer.
In Clair's words
"I’m especially fascinated by the role language plays in design and research, which led me to my work with The Sensemakers Club as a Sensemaker in Residence. Out of that residency, I developed this course on thoughtful language use to help designers, researchers, and storytellers create experiences that truly work for people.
When I’m not knee-deep in the world of information, you’ll find me playing chess, painting miniature figurines, or sketching away while repeatedly binge-watching The X-Files. But in all honesty, I’m probably just hanging out with my wife and daughter"
